A LAKE MCQUEENEY TRADITION
Founded in 1945 on the love of skiing, good food, and gathering together, Lake Breeze Ski Lodge has become a summer tradition for families near and far. Whether sipping on a Lodge-a-Rita with friends, lounging at the pool, or enjoying a lakeside dinner, the memories you and your family make at The Lodge are memories that will last a lifetime.
Charles "Buzz" Mueller was born on January 23, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas to Charles and Claire (Zinsmeyer) Mueller. In 1940, after attending college, he joined his mother in starting what is today known as Lake Breeze Ski Lodge on Lake McQueeney.
After a visit to Cypress Gardens, Florida, Buzz introduced water skiing to Texas. Buzz's passion for skiing helped turn Lake Breeze Ski Lodge into a popular social spot that would become known as the "Water Skiing Capital of Texas". In 1948, Buzz built and installed the first ski jump on Lake McQueeney and also became the first person to ski over it. Buzz coached his brother, Joe Mueller, who went on to become a World Champion water skier and record holder. Talk about a good teacher!
In 1952, Buzz founded the Buzz Mueller Ski Show, which later became known as Lake McQueeney Ski Bees. The tradition still continues today, with the Ski Bees performing ski shows every summer for Lodge members.
Buzz enjoyed running the Ski Lodge alongside his son Kipp Mueller until his passing on July 19, 2018. Today, Kipp Mueller and his family run the Ski Lodge, making sure to carry on the traditions Buzz started so long ago.
